Advanced Cforms Techniques: Dynamically prepopulating a form field via URL

We use Oliver Seidel’s CForms plugin quite a bit around here, due to its robust functionality, and support for aggressive customization, such as posting to MethodCRM, and posting to a spreadsheet in Google Docs. Someone recently posted a question on their forums about how to prepopulate a form field using data passed in the URL. Since we’ve done that before, I figured I’d outline the steps below:

Everything you know about social mobile web statistics is dead wrong.

Yes, I know that’s a provocative title, but it accurately reflects some of the realizations I’ve had over the last several months while researching social engagement systems. There are a hundred million people arguing about a thousand data points with massively conflicting data that results in a high level perspective which is about as accurate as the numbers in this sentence. The reason? None of the metrics being recorded are consistent measures of success across multiple platforms; each has their own KPI, and none of the measurement systems effectively address the nuances of the competing systems.

It’s been a slamming first quarter at ImTheirWebGuy.com

That’s my clever way of saying “Wow, I haven’t updated the blog in a bit, huh?” Check out our portfolio to get a feel for some of the projects that have been keeping us busy. However, that’s just one part of the news around here.

First, as mentioned recently, I was selected to be a Google Glass Explorer. With that announcement, I partnered up with some awesome folks on Google+ to form LivingThruGlass, which has taken off as a premier news source for Glass Explorers.

Second, we’ve added a responsive Google+ and Facebook powered comments section. Let me know how it works for you.

Finally, we’re pleased to announce that Valerie Whitmore of CDKitchen.com┬áhas joined our development team. Valerie is a heavy duty PHP coder who’s honed her skills building a custom platform for recipe sharing, and has been helping take up some of the slack around here. Check out her site.

There’s tons more to announce soon, but that’s all for now. Thanks for being an ImTheirWebGuy.com fan.

LivingThruGlass.com

ltgIf you’re following any of the stories about Google Glass, you’ve likely read at least one article on LivingThruGlass.com, the premier site for Glass coverage. This site draws inspiration from Google’s card style aesthetic, and was the first production media site to run the Google+ powered commenting system. It also features infinite scroll, and Google powered everything (login with Google, Google Authorship, G+ powered avatars, etc.).

Entrepreneur Social Club

escThe Entrepreneur Social Club is a weekly get together of the best and brightest entrepreneurs, startups, and independent business owners in St. Petersburg, Florida. Although the club has been around for four years, the web presence was a static informational page about the weekly meeting. As we grow the concept into a national organization, we needed a site that was member focused which allowed robust user profiles, multi-author blogging, and interaction between the members. Additionally, the site features heavy social media interaction on multiple platforms, and integrated Google Authorship for all writers.

ExecChef Catering

execchefExecChef Catering is a full service catering company with chefs who focus on creating an amazing culinary experience for your wedding or event. I wanted to capture that experience with a heavily visual site that focused on their passion, and the food. This responsive design puts the experience up front and center no matter the mobile environment.

Davin’s Dream Team

davinjosephI love working with branding and marketing agencies because of the opportunities provided. Pinstripe Marketing┬ácontracted me to freshen up the existing design for Davin’s Dream Team, a non-profit foundation run by Tampa Bay Buccaneer Davin Joseph. Joseph has been rightly hailed for his commitment to giving back to the community, and it’s a privilege to help showcase that work. If you’re looking for a charitable cause to get behind, check out DavinsDreamTeam.org.
